Master Howard VII Athlones Chief Instructor Conducted a class in Athlone
Venue: Athlone Dojang, Bower Secondary School Gym, Retreat Rd, Athlone
Master Howard VII Athlone Chief Instructor came to Athlone to conduct a class to colour belt members. Master Howard began the class with a warm up and fundemental techniques as there was a great mixutre of students ranging from beginner to 2nd degree blackbelt. Master Howard explained how Taekwon-Do is a martial art and how we should not limit ourselves to only a few techniques as we use in sparring, he then went on to showing members the various different attacking and defending tools used in taekwondo and how important it is for memebrs to condition these tools such as finger tips, thumb, forfist, backfist, knifehand and even wrist. At the break Master Howard performed a demonstration to both little dragons and main class. to begin the demonstarion Master howard reflected on what he has mentioned regarding the various attacking/defending tools we use and performed a fingertip break on an inch of timber. Once this break was complete Master Howard showed how the wrist can be used as a attacking tool by breaking two rooftiles with only his wrist. The demonstration was enjoyed by all members and showed what a member can achieve by training hard and dedicating them selves to learning Taekwondo, becomeing a true Master of the Art as Master Howard has. Once the demonstration was complete Master Howard continued the class focusing on higer grade techniques and patterns.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Master Howard for travelling from Dublin to conduct this class for colourbelt members.
video to be added soon!!!

Senior Master Anthony Phelan VIII Degree Blackbelt Blackbelt Class
Sunday 18th July 12:00pm - 2:00pm
Venue: Athlone Dojang, Bower Secondary School Gym, Retreat Rd, Athlone
The RITA’s vice-president Senior Master Phelan (8th Degree) conducted a very enjoyable national Black Belt class in Athlone Taekwon-Do School last Sunday. SM Phelan pushed the Black Belts hard in the two hour class and managed to cover 13 patterns (from Kwang-Gae to Tong-Il), foot sparring (Bal Matsogi), fundamental kicks and flying kicks.
The 17 black belts from Athlone, Cork , Dublin and Galway all learned a great deal in the short space of time and would have gladly trained for longer under the very experienced instructor. The next national Black Belts class will be before the RITA’s AGM on the 27th of November.
Senior Master Barrett VIII Degree International Seminar Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th July Fullday
Two Day Seminar
Venue: Lucan Spa Hotel, Lucan, Dublin
The first day of this Seminar was open to all grades. Master Barrett went through each colourbelt pattern explaining what each movement was for and how the patterns should be interpreted for self defense and not just an array of techniques. Master Barrett got each blacbelt member begining with the first degrees to come out and teach the entire class, as mistakes were made Master Barrtts corrected them and showed the proper way to teach a class so that all students can easily understand the instructor. Mr Dunne and Mr Conlon were two of the first blackbelts to teach the class. Both of them who have experiance in teaching taekwondo but found it quite intimidating standing in front of senior blackbelts and Masters not to mention their two origional instructors Master Howard and Mr O'Donnell. Both Mr Dunne and Mr Conlon learned the proper techniques to teach classes. One of the main points taken is how the Martial art should be thought through patterns and technique to provide a student with self defense. The second day was just for blackbelts again going through the proper way to teach taekwondo. Each blackbelt had teach a particular blackbelt pattern explaining what movements were for and how they should be applied not to compromise technique as power would be lost. All 24 patterns were performed on the day. It was very interesting to see the higher blackbelt patterns being performed by instructors and masters.
